Habitat restoration through seagrass transplantation
Ocean Breath intends to provide services to restore the P. oceanica meadows in the areas where the impact of human activities has degraded this important and priority marine habitat, using transplantation techniques that employ seagrass seedlings and fragments washed ashore or fragments collected from local meadows (Terrados et al.2013; Belzunce et al. 2008).
Restoring seagrass meadows in Maltese waters, through active restoration, supports the recovery of the functionality of the damaged marine habitat and contributes to maintain the health of the seagrass habitat that is protected and considered as a priority habitat type by EU directives.
